Grasses Around Diamond Tail Ranch
There are at least 22 grasses native to Diamond Tail, and there are some lovely ones here. Sprinkled along the roadsides and in roadcuts grow Big, Little and Silver Bluestem, all with umber colored stems. while the fluffed out seedhead of Bottlebrush Squirreltail looks just like it’s name. The edible seeded Indian Rice grass grows here, intermingling with abundant Needle-and-Thread Grass. Back off the roads of Diamond Tail, one can often find ring muhly named for it’s habit of growing in circles.
